William Kesling’s Adams House at 3217 Fernwood Ave., in Silver Lake is a prime example of Streamline Moderne architecture. This late type of Art Deco architecture emerged in the 1930s with its recognizable long horizontal lines and curing forms. The 1939 Adams house is sited on a street to street 5000sf terraced lot and displays many of the classic Streamline Moderne architectural features.
The Adams House rests within the boundaries of Silver Lake’s coveted Ivanhoe School. With 3 bedrooms and 1 bath in 1400sf of living space, this compact architectural is in need of a facelift. Last on the market in 1993 and most recently tenant-occupied, this house is ready for a Silver Lake archiphile to bring her back to her former glory. It has terrific bones and already boasts a renovated kitchen complete with Viking, Bosch and subzero appliance, but there is obvious damage to some of the interior walls.
3217 Fernwood has expansive Silver Lake city lights views and plenty of natural light from the windows running across the back of the house. and the Wilson House at 1831 Fanning Street. The Fanning St. house sold in May 2007 for $1,130,575.
