Help Save a Richard Neutra Masterpiece, The Kronish Residence, in Beverly Hills

The Kronish house in Beverly hills is the largest residence build by Richard Neutra in Southern CalifornaIf you are a fan of modernist architecture and would like to see it preserved, then do your part to save Richard Neutra’s Kronish Residence in Beverly Hills from being demolished. The development company which currently owns the property, Soda Parnters LLC, filed for a demolition permit of The Kronish house. This house single story home was built for Herbert Kronish in 1954 and sits on a 2-acre lot.  The 6,891sf home has 6 bedrooms, 5 ½ baths and is the largest home build by Richard Neutra in Southern California. Richard Neutra worked for Frank Lloyd Wright in 1924 but moved to California 1925 to work with Rudolf Schindler. It wasn’t long before Neutra was out on his own making a name for himself. In 1949 Time magazine ranked Richard Neutra as second only to Frank Lloyd Wright in American architecture. Neutra designed more than 300 houses in California between 1927 and 1969, including a number in Silver Lake known as the Neutra Colony. This collection of modernist architecture designed by Richard Neutra is located near the intersection of Earl Street and Silver Lake Blvd. The VDL Research house at 2300 Silverlake Blvd across from the Silver Lake reservoir was Neutra’s own home and was built using experimental materials. The original structure built in 1932 was rebuilt after being destroyed by fire in 1963. The property was left to Cal Poly Pomona to be preserved for public study and may be toured most Saturdays from 11-3 with admission going towards maintenance and repairs of the house.
